Post Purple People Eaters
i love to play ranch/tactics decks, so when i say Galam-Reth, i just had to build the deck. and yes i have to name them after the Vikings... i do live in MN afterall :P

Galam-Reth (the quaterback, and i dont see a number 4 on his card)
The Plentiful x2 (i have to go with the 2 hp second rank)
Shulgi x2, The Devoted (im not gonna let mornington scare me)

Characters:
Bal-Benoth x3 (the strongest lvl 4 chosen have)
Redu Tam x3 (a thrall i can kill twice that becomes a daemon? yes please)
The Devoted x2 (derrrr)
Bar'rax x3 (a great planar wall with no real cost to entering play)
Garowl (a healer i might take out for the dev/chosen)
Yil-Grayl (TARDED)
Getraxos (part of me wants to go x2, but what to take out)
Sin-Marduk (extremely stupid amounts of attack? yes please!!!)
As'sa x2 (i would go to +3, but i only have two...)
Pagophoros (filler till i get a third As'sa, he cant equip dragon buckler if he reacts)
The Seed x3 (STAPLE)

Items:
Griffon of Misear x2 (you can never have enough react movement)
Wyvern Gem x3 (bal-benoth loves this card)
Dragon Buckler x3 (MVP)
Bruntor's Helm x3 (if your not gonna heal much, just start handing out hp)
Storm Wolf (movement all around, Galam's steed)

Actions:
Stubborn x3 (movement with opponent hate)
Close Ranks x2 (this card is just too useful in chosen decks)
Meet at the Inn x3 (gotta have your beer)
Thrust x3 (discard Sin-Marduk to make your opponent cry)
Coordinated Assault (im currently testing this card, ill comment on it more later)
Sudden Reversal x3 (STAPLE)

so far this deck has not lost a single game. i have thrown it up against match ups that i was certain to lose, only to some how win. Bal-Benoth with a dragons buckler, bruntor's helm, and wyvern gem equipped, and Sin-Marduk in the discard, is just wrong in so many ways

This beats Morghen? I find that somewhat unlikely, as Shroud of Lost Souls spells your DOOM.

He won every game he has played. In MN we don't run crap decks like Morghen, LOL. no, but no one does run Morghen ATM and I don't really see how that card would hurt this deck, sure it might get Sin but with all of the LV 4's that still a permanent +4 bonus.

im glad someone likes the name :D

and i havent faced any discard pile hate yet, and im fairly sure i can handle the shroud. its one character per turn. it doesnt really concern me.

:headslap: :nonono: ...
I'm not sure why no one is running Morghen right now... Tony usually does the elf thing and he's been having more fun with LoP, I guess...

I'd cut down on Bal-benoth by one... I know he's huge, but Getraxos, I think, is better... Who do you sack for Bal-benoth when the Seed or Tam can't react?...

It should. :D As you'll see more of it with the next set. And it neuters your attack bonus, does two wounds, AND removes one character per turn... pretty evil, but not much you can do about it...

I've only faced this deck once, but it reminded me of Drasek... huge bonuses, fat characters, and neverending ranching...

Did you decide to skip the whole Duanna=Bear's Soul thing?

ya, i was testing out Garowl, but he usually does nothing in the deck. i might take out Garowl for a second Getraxos as Bal-Benoth is too huge to take out.

I like Bal in Galam more than any other chosen WL........ although I still question your thrall selection. I was a litle skeptical about the thrust/marduk combo when I first saw Galam. I initially dismissed it for competitive play (which is vvery uncharacteristic of me, since I'll try just about anything) I gave it a second look a little while back, and, got a slighty different version. I'll get it up a little later today

This was my thing too... Since Bal can't interact with Tam or Seed,... the only way to get him into play without consequences is The Devoted, a stunned Seed, or a Daemon Tam with a wound... But, I suppose those options may be enough...
I also like Getraxos because he can attack within one turn of coming into play with Galam's ability! Also, Getrax swingin' for 3 wounds a piece! :hypnotized:

All in all, a solid deck!

the deck finally lost to a setrohk deck for two reasons, i stopped drawing characters halfway through the deck, and i lost every single initiative roll. i cant complain though, now i know where to improve, i took Garowl out and put Duanna back in.

That it's Bal heavy who has no interaction with the reacts of The Seed and Redu Tam.

Sure you get something on the back end of those characters like sacing them when they are spent, wounded, or stunned. It's just a little inefficient.

Duanna is a pretty soild choice IMO. glad she's back in.

...just curious... Is there something to starting one Darkspawn and then maindecking The Earth instead of Duanna?....

It seems to me, efficiency is being able to sack, then retrieve either another thrall to sack -OR a daemon with a quick 12+ attack??..... (sin in discard, couple other daemons in front rank)...

EDIT: ...Then a Thrust from the Devoted would be super-effective right away!...

I only start Darkspawn if I run Pazu and Amand for the best stated line up in the game.......but since it has a weaklink of the Darkspawn, it can be shut down pretty fast. It's also going to limit the number of sacs you have available.

If you started Earth, then you should have Wheat in the front rank as well. It gives you a higher number of possible thrall sacs. I tested that in my rush deck. In fact I think the starting line up I left off with looks like this:

Wheat, Devoted, Duanna
Earth, Scrambler

Not certain though. I would start a Scrambler over the Spawn. Even if you're not facing 2hp pleebs then Scrambler can come up and get you that big swing from your early Marduk/Thrust. Then you can get his ranged strike into their second rank if need be. Much more versatile. Spawn only works for that Amand and Pazu start. Even as a late drop, I'd prefer Galaglax since you have the option of getting a 2 wound swing. Pazu gets close to the same atk as Spawn as a late drop and he's got better AC along with an option for a sac.

In short.......no on starting Darkspawn

What I meant was that since his starting army already does little more than hold ranks (which is all they need to do) he may as well start one Darkspawn and have the option to come back from the grave later with an ironfist :D

The most defensive Chosen start I know is Plentiful x2, Devoted, and either Shulgi or Duanna... Shulgi has the nice little react, and you get Duanna back later.
Dropping one of them shouldn't hurt your thrall resources too bad... ?

I still wouldn't do it.

You get the same option with Earth and Scrambler in the 2nd rank, without putting a gimp character like Darkspawn in you starting line up. 1 atk, 11 ac and only good if you get thrust/Marduk and the Spawn survives your opponent's return strike.........not very stable, IMO.

With the line up I suggested, you don't lose as much defense and you still gain a little offensive punch.

Wheat/Devoted/Duanna
Earth/Scrambler

vs.

Darkspawn/Devoted/Duanna
Earth/Plentiful

Your little offensive threat is at more risk the way I see it. Unless you're suggesting a different start?
