one card people seem to neglect is counterspell seriously, that card is rediculously good, and stops the easy kills on your daemons.

And in the level 5 ranching version kings lady and dragon buckler are great draws.

THIS! Holy crap, the Atiratu that took 3rd in NY's Winter Campaign was scary. Raging Hungerer + Iridescent Armor + The King's Lady = worlds of pain.

Why is Shonta not on this list? I run her in my deck and the extra lvl on a thrall is great to go get Getraxos. I dont know how many times I've had a good hand to get him in the fornt rank turn one and the only thing missing was either Get him self or a thrall with a lvl able to let me go search for him. If she lives she has medicine at a total of +7 not great but I've had it help before.

Shonta is helpful, to be sure. But most decks find the 3rd level thralls show up consistently enough that worrying about boosting a level 2 to be worthwhile. But if you're not running trips of Redu Tam and The Seed with a Yil-Grayl, then yeah you probably need something to make The Earth or Winti really shine.

And counterspell was kind of a sleeper when it was released. Back then, you didn't see half as many wizards as you do now (mostly Morghen, maybe a little Yavlo) and didn't fret Sacrifice nearly as much as you do Cauterize.
Nowadays, it seems like a staple card all right.

counterspell is definately a staple. For the simple reason that it stops everything your characters are weak against (outside of an opponent that only rolls even)

It only stop's 2-3spells depending on how many you have in your deck, you might need to up the darkwood staff's in your deck, as she like's to get spell blitzed alot, and that equal's a bad day for her

Staff of Storage is probably better than Darkwood Staff as it allows Counterspell to be used for four turns. If you aren't playing against a wizard or cleric, it can also hold Phantom Steed and help up your tempo each turn.

Generally, the flexibility of darkwood staff beats the short-term card advantage of staff of storage, I find.
Locking in one good spell on the staff IS nice and certainly makes it a playable card, don't get me wrong. But getting a different spell back into your deck turn after turn is just great.

And while you may only counter two or three spells, even without either staff, that's still as good as (if not better than) most cleric healing. It's about timing. ;)

darkwood is better 9 games out of 10.

and canceling healing, or lightning bolt can make a big change.
